If you live in the Peninsula School District, there's now a price tag on replacing Gig Harbor and Peninsula high schools: $800 million. The Capital Bond Planning Task Force presented its recommendations to the school board Oct. 27. Board President Natalie Wimberly says the district hasn't decided on cost or scope, but calls the findings “an important starting point.”
- Also in the plan: mid-size pools and performing arts centers
- Also replaced or built: the bus barn and a shared stadium
- Stadium today: Roy Anderson Field, which seats 2,000
- Nov. 10: Wimberly expects a draft resolution at the board meeting
If voters approve the full amount, the district's tax rate would rise to $3.52 per $1,000 of assessed value, according to Gig Harbor Now figures MyNorthwest relayed.
A $950,000 home would pay about $60 more a month than a $500,000 home

There's no timeline yet for when the board could adopt a resolution or which election a bond could join. KIRO's Gee Scott, who loves the idea, called Gig Harbor “the Bellevue of Tacoma.”
