About this event

Who was David Steinman? Few people know that the famed designer and engineer of the longest suspension bridge in the Western Hemisphere was, in fact, the first engineer to conceptualize the Narrows Bridge. Steinman was dedicated, heart and soul, to suspension bridges, seeing poetry in the spans and strength in the caissons.

In this talk by HHM Director Stephanie Lile, we’ll journey back to 1928 when Steinman’s first concept drawings were released to the public; to his critical view of the bridge’s construction; and ponder why the man who ultimately built the famed Mackinac Bridge was not hired to complete one across the Narrows.

Cost: $5 (free for HHM members)
