About this event
Discover the breathtaking and meditative Japanese art of Kinusaiga—a traditional fabric mosaic technique that uses richly colored fabric pieces pressed into a foam base to create stunning, painterly textile artwork! This beginner-friendly class for ages 16 and up is an introduction to a lesser-known fiber art form that produces truly spectacular results. In this hands-on class, participants will:
• Learn the history and origins of Kinusaiga and its roots in traditional Japanese textile art
• Prepare a base panel and plan a simple but beautiful design to work from
• Select and cut vibrant fabric pieces, learning how to use color, pattern, and texture to build depth and dimension
• Tuck and press fabric into carved grooves to create a seamless, mosaic-like composition that resembles a painted masterpiece
• Leave with a completed Kinusaiga panel and the foundational skills to continue exploring this stunning art form at home
Kinusaiga is a deeply satisfying and meditative craft that produces artwork of extraordinary beauty.
