Hosted by the Newcastle Historical Society, this Open House invites you to explore one of Newcastle’s hidden treasures – the historic Newcastle Cemetery. Tucked into a forested hillside overlooking Lake Boren, the cemetery is usually closed but opens for scheduled one-day events.

Covering just over two acres, the cemetery has served as the final resting place for coal miners and their families since the 1870s. It’s a rare, tangible connection to the diverse nationalities who shaped Newcastle’s coal-mining history.

What to expect: –Docent-led tours with stories about those buried there –Peaceful, self-guided walks through the site –A chance to learn more about Newcastle’s rich past

Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with local history in a truly meaningful setting. All are welcome!
