ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mount Rainier experienced a swarm of more than 1,350 small earthquakes this summer and USGS scientists said the shaking came from heated water underground rather than rising magma—gas tests over summit vents showed water vapor and carbon dioxide with no sulfur gases. FOX 13
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, August 19, Tacoma City Council adopted Resolution 41740 that allocated $15,000 from the Council Contingency Fund to fund the documentary Grit of Destiny: City of Tacoma—designed to show the city's cultures, histories and dreams. Council Member Sandesh Sadalge and co-sponsors said the film will attract film makers and promote Tacoma as a creative hub. City of Tacoma
- ➤ Pierce Transit held a summit yesterday where county officials outlined plans to add bus routes and launch an open payment system by early 2026 to handle the surge in ridership expected for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The agency will also boost service to the new light rail expansion and submit a state funding plan by Dec. 1—steps designed to ease traffic and support the local economy. KOMO News
