Mount Rainier experienced a swarm of more than 1,350 small earthquakes this summer and USGS scientists said the shaking came from heated water underground rather than rising magma—gas tests over summit vents showed water vapor and carbon dioxide with no sulfur gases.

On Tuesday, August 19, Tacoma City Council adopted Resolution 41740 that allocated $15,000 from the Council Contingency Fund to fund the documentary Grit of Destiny: City of Tacoma—designed to show the city's cultures, histories and dreams.
