On October 23rd, Washington State Patrol troopers Bonner and Fath rescued an adorable kitten near 96th along Interstate 5 in Tacoma after multiple 911 calls reported the scaredy cat.

The kitten was taken to an animal hospital for a quick checkup and now has a forever home with one of the troopers.

Local nonprofit Mission Outdoors—led by Navy veteran Ladale Herron—raised $3,000 to buy commissary gift cards for military families hit by the federal government shutdown, which has delayed paychecks and threatened SNAP benefits.

The group plans to distribute the funds soon to help families cope with the crisis.
