COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Tacoma Dome partnered with the Tacoma Rescue Mission on Socktober—an October sock drive to aid those facing homelessness that began on October 1. Community members and concertgoers will drop off new, unused socks at bins on the Tacoma Dome Plaza and the Greater Tacoma Convention Center and may win prizes at events like Sleep Token on October 7 and SEVENTEEN on October 11.  City of Tacoma

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Oct 1, AWB President Kris Johnson warned lawmakers in D.C. and Olympia that tariffs, taxes, and regulations risk harming Washington manufacturing. He said 72% of AWB members reported impacts from proposed tariffs with many businesses delaying capital projects, hiring and planning layoffs.  KOMO News

  • Americana-Blues musician Stephanie Anne Johnson is set to release the new album Sing, Baby! and she will hold album release shows — scheduled across the Puget Sound from October 18 to November 15.  FOX 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The state retail sales tax expanded yesterday—impacting thousands of outstate companies.  FOX 13
  • Airlines warned that a government shutdown may disrupt travel, but the Port of Seattle said Sea-Tac is open and working normally today—officials advise travelers to arrive early as staffing may change if federal workers are furloughed. Federal employees are expected to receive back pay after the shutdown ends.  FOX 13
  • Nearly 80,000 federal workers in Washington are affected by a government shutdown that began October 1. The Employment Security Division is helping furloughed workers apply for unemployment benefits while essential workers keep working without pay — leaving many worried about support if the shutdown lasts.  KOMO News
