- ➤ Tacoma Humane Society partnered with American Red Cross during National Preparedness Month & advised residents on assembling go-bags with essential supplies for people and pets. FOX 13
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A woman was arrested in Tacoma on September 26th for damaging signs and destroying petitions during a signature drive for ballot initiatives — a group said her actions harassed and attacked workers gathering signatures. FOX 13
- ➤ Let’s Go Washington said that signature gatherers in Tacoma and across the state faced vandalism and theft of signature sheets as they collected support for initiatives to bar biological males from girls’ sports and to add a parents’ bill of rights—nine incidents were reported in five days and Gov. Bob Ferguson urged people to report the intimidation as state law makes such interference a gross misdemeanor. KOMO News

- ➤ Studio 13 Live learned modern Thai cooking techniques from chef 8 Ping Yang on September 26th—he showed how to mix global flavors into the restaurant menu. The restaurant will soon offer new dishes for local diners. FOX 13

- ➤ Tacoma will celebrate its 24th anniversary of Arts Month this October with free events featuring music, dance, film screenings, exhibits and workshops for all ages. The celebration will include an opening party at the Public Library on October 4 from 1 to 4 p.m. — a family-friendly event with live performances — and a Studio Tour on October 11 and 12 that offers visits to more than 70 local studios. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Starting Monday at 5 a.m., WSDOT will charge tolls on a one-mile section of the new SR 509 expressway between I-5 and 24th Avenue South—near Sea-Tac Airport. The fee will range from $1.20 to $2.40 for those with Good To Go! passes, and toll revenue will help cover road maintenance and future projects. KOMO News
- ➤ Mayor Victoria Woodards said on Friday that Tacoma appealed a court ruling on fair wages and predictable scheduling because the City needed to follow the review process required by the City Charter—ensuring initiatives are thoroughly examined before reaching the ballot.
