EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Washington Attorney General Nick Brown and 17 other state attorneys general sent a letter to the Department of Education yesterday warning that proposed cuts to school mental health programs would harm students—federal changes would limit services and burden school counselors and social workers. - ➤ On August 19, Washington State Superintendent Chris Reykdal discussed with FOX 13 how schools are preparing classrooms for a surge in generative AI use by students — he noted that new guidelines and curriculum updates will support these efforts. FOX 13
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Yesterday, the Hylebos Bridge off East 11th Street in Tacoma Tideflats was closed to vehicular traffic because of a technical malfunction—City engineers and a contracting crew worked to repair the issue while the bridge remained open for shipping vessels. - ➤ Tacoma is partnering with Crown Castle to pilot an innovative fiber installation method that will allow underground fiber work without closing traffic — the project will use a small crew at two locations near North 7th Street and Cushman Avenue and near North Carr Street and Tacoma Avenue.
