CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Closing arguments began yesterday for the man accused of stabbing a woman in Point Defiance Park — he faced charges stemming from an incident last year. FOX 13
- ➤ Closing arguments began Tuesday morning in the trial of Nicholas Matthew, 29, accused of stabbing Victoria Nizzoli in Point Defiance Park in February 2024—evidence including DNA, video and witness testimony was shown to the jury as they prepare to decide his fate. KOMO News
- ➤ A prisoner escaped custody Tuesday from Sea-Tac Airport by running from two corrections officers on the fourth floor and fleeing toward the SeaTac light rail station—police and DOC are searching the area and leading the investigation. FOX 13
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ A Pierce County study found that parts of Puyallup and Sumner are up to 10 degrees warmer than other areas because concrete and asphalt surfaces retain heat at night — causing sleep problems and higher risks of heat-related illnesses. The county will plant more trees and hire an urban forester to cool these urban areas. KOMO News

- ➤ Tacoma and Pierce County officials are facing a lawsuit filed on Tuesday that claims they delayed processing a worker’s bill of rights petition, keeping it off the November ballot—labor groups allege the legal loophole pushed the effort past required deadlines and may force ballot access to be rescheduled for February if the court rules in their favor. - ➤ Local groups are suing Tacoma and Pierce County because the city and county missed key deadlines that blocked the Workers' Bill of Rights from reaching the November ballot—Tacoma for All collected over 10,000 signatures for a $20 minimum wage and fair scheduling, and they say the delays were deliberate.
