CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Investigators linked Nicholas Matthew to a brutal stabbing in Point Defiance Park using DNA evidence, video footage, and witness accounts—he is on trial for the attempted murder of a woman attacked in February who suffered many stab wounds while his vehicle and blood evidence were found near the scene, leading to his arrest after he tried to flee. - ➤ Tacoma Police are still searching for a suspect after a fatal shooting in the emergency room of Allenmore Hospital Wednesday night that left one man dead and a woman injured and treated—officials said extra security arrived from Tacoma General within 15 minutes as they reviewed security measures. - ➤ Police arrested a 38-year-old Tacoma man who evaded officers in three pursuits—one that began when he intentionally rammed a firetruck—and he now faces charges for eluding police, reckless driving and attempted assault with bail set at $100,000. FOX 13
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, the U.S. government began higher tariffs on imported goods from more than 90 countries, with most items now facing a 10% duty while products from regions like the European Union, Japan, and South Korea could incur a 15% charge and those from Taiwan, Vietnam, and Bangladesh a 20% fee. The new tariffs are expected to raise prices for Washington households—adding up to about $2,400 extra this year—and may push local retailers to adjust their costs. KOMO News
