- ➤ Today and Sunday, the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County is waiving pet adoption fees to help residents adopt dogs, cats, and rabbits—nearly 200 shelter animals along with more than 300 available in foster homes. The shelter is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. all weekend, and staff advise arriving early to meet high demand. FOX 13

- ➤ Subcontractors can now register for the inaugural Grit City Connect: Construct Your Future networking event—co-hosted by the City of Tacoma, Parks Tacoma, and Tacoma Public Schools—to connect with prime contractors and public agencies about upcoming projects. The event will be held on September 25 from 9 a.m. to noon at Eastside Community Center, 1721 E. 56th St. City of Tacoma

- ➤ Olympic athlete Sha'Carri Richardson was arrested at Sea-Tac Airport on July 27 for fourth-degree domestic assault when surveillance video captured her allegedly pushing her boyfriend — she was booked into jail and released by a court order the next day while withdrawing from the U.S. track and field championships. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Tacoma’s Environmental Services Department launched a two-year pilot with Prairie Robotics on Friday, August 1 to use smart camera technology to detect recycling contamination and send educational postcards to residents. The project is funded by a $1.8 million EPA grant and will roll out in phases to selected routes over the next year. City of Tacoma
