🎭 Culture
K-pop group SEVENTEEN will start the U.S. leg of their NEW_ world tour in Tacoma on October 11—visiting major cities before finishing in Washington, DC on October 30.
The tour follows their record-breaking album HAPPY BURSTDAY and 10th anniversary celebration, and ticket presales begin on August 5 at local times.
🌲 Environment
Tsunami advisories along Washington coastlines ended yesterday after an 8.8 earthquake in Russia led to alerts, reminding residents how tsunamis form when waves approach land.
KOMO meteorologist George Waldenberger said future alerts will come with different impacts on our shores.
Washington coastal areas saw minimal impact from Tuesday's massive earthquake off Russia as officials canceled tsunami alerts after slight sea level changes were noted.
UW seismologist Harold Tobin warned that a large aftershock could trigger a new tsunami alert and advised residents to check local guidance before returning to the beaches — precaution continues as researchers study the event.
🏛️ Government
During the July 29, 2025, study session the City Council discussed Initiative 2, known as the Worker’s Bill of Rights, and raised concerns over its shift notice rules for large employers like hospitals and emergency services.
The council will study its effects during the charter-mandated 30-day review period (as allowed by the City Charter) and then move the issue to a committee for further public discussion before the November ballot.
