CRIME NEWS

  • A Tacoma grandmother was shot in the face with a pellet gun near Pioneer Square on Saturday as she drove home, and she is now recovering in the hospital with a broken cheekbone — police are asking for anyone who saw the incident to come forward.  KOMO News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Western Washington reached 90-degree highs over the weekend, and officials say another heat wave will hit later this week with little rain expected. A federal drought map shows that many areas are abnormally dry while parts of the Cascades are in severe drought—raising concerns that even one lightning strike could spark a wildfire.  KOMO News
  • Mt. Rainier experienced its largest earthquake swarm on record earlier this week—scientists at the USGS Cascades Volcano Observatory said the quakes were not expected to lead to an eruption and were likely caused by hot fluids in existing faults.  FOX 13
