ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A car crash knocked down power lines near South 76th Street + Pacific Avenue on Wednesday morning, leaving hundreds of Tacoma residents without power. FOX 13
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Tacoma Creates Advisory Board approved contracts on July 1 (totaling about $6.4M) for 80 local nonprofits to advance arts, culture, heritage and science; the funding supports programs from July 1 through June 30 (marking Tacoma Creates’ sixth year of support). City of Tacoma
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On July 1, Tacoma unveiled its new, permanent Pride-themed crosswalk on Broadway between South 9th and 11th streets to kick off Pride Month. City officials approved the $35,000 project and the design by Public Works Artist in Residence Natalie Dupille (the crosswalk retains standard white stripes for legal crossing) as a lasting symbol of inclusion. - ➤ The City of Tacoma will pay $6 million to Manuel Ellis's family, adding to a previous $4 million settlement from Pierce County (as part of a legal resolution). The payment is scheduled to be finalized soon (final details remain pending). FOX 13
