Beginning July 1, 2026, Tacoma will launch a new Voluntary Demolition Salvage Program that lets property owners + contractors opt for a salvage assessment to earn accelerated permit review and waived fees, aiming to reduce waste and boost environmental sustainability.

Tacoma City Council adopted a resolution today authorizing a $1.75 million agreement with the Washington Department of Ecology to launch the South Tacoma Tree Canopy Enhancement Project.

The project will add trees and green spaces to reduce air pollution, heat, and stormwater impacts through December 2028.
