BUSINESS NEWS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the City Council adopted the South Tacoma Neighborhood Plan based on over 1,300 community interactions that set goals for economic opportunity, transportation safety, community health, environmental sustainability, cultural identity and affordability. City staff will soon start projects — including a tree planting initiative with $15,000 in contingency funds and corridor safety improvements on South Tacoma Way—to put the plan into action as the Neighborhood Planning Program ends.  City of Tacoma
  • Mayor Victoria Woodards said Tacoma closed the Minority Business Development Agency Business Center after the Community and Economic Development Department received a Notice of Grant Termination from the US Department of Commerce on April 29, 2025 - the city will work with federal partners to restore funding if conditions change.  City of Tacoma
  • On June 10, the Tacoma City Council voted to update animal control codes to address rising animal overpopulation and increase pet license fees to fund low-cost spay and neuter programs. The new code bans unlicensed pet sales and mandates spay/neuter for impounded animals – council members said the changes aim to ease the burden on shelters and other city resources.  City of Tacoma
