BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dave's Hot Chicken plans to open four new restaurants in western Washington, with sites in Redmond, Tacoma, Puyallup and Federal Way. The Tacoma Mall and Redmond locations will open by the end of this year while the Puyallup and Federal Way restaurants will debut in 2026 & customers will soon taste Nashville-style hot chicken, mac & cheese, and house-made kale slaw.  FOX 13

CRIME NEWS

  • Former Seattle Sonics star Shawn Kemp pleaded guilty to second-degree assault for a 2023 shooting at Tacoma Mall (his sentencing is set for 1:30 p.m. on August 22).  FOX 13
  • A former Tacoma lawyer pleaded guilty to wire fraud after he embezzled over $530,000 from a disabled client's trust account over a decade + he misused the funds meant to help cover her care.  FOX 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Tacoma Public Works will close one lane of northbound and one lane of southbound traffic on Schuster Parkway between South 4th Street and Ruston Way for landscape maintenance from June 9–13 at 7 a.m.–4 p.m. each day, and notice boards will update drivers if weather causes changes.  City of Tacoma

  • FOX 13 News anchor Matthew Smith made his debut on On the Sidelines S1E14 where he broke down the Storm's blowout win over Las Vegas, the Mariners' 6-4 road trip featuring a key matchup with the Astros, the Sounders' win at Lumen Field, and NFL spring meeting topics including the survival of the tush push rule and use of flag football in the 2028 Olympics — the show also featured a ranking of the hosts' top 5 most disliked teams.  FOX 13
