Scientists at Mount St. Helens now operate a dense network of 18 seismometers within a seven-mile radius & track 17 earthquakes per month following the deadly 1980 eruption that reshaped volcanic monitoring.

The system helps detect early signs of activity to enhance safety on the mountain.

A state emergency manager recalled the 46th anniversary of the Mount St. Helens eruption on May 18th and shared disaster preparedness tips for residents.

His remarks aim to boost local readiness for future emergencies.
