A man was hospitalized after he jumped from a Puyallup overpass during a police chase that started in Sumner at 9:18 p.m. Tuesday (the chase began when a driver nearly caused a collision on Valley Avenue and hit two vehicles on westbound SR 512), which briefly closed the highway.

The Northwest Seaport Alliance, which serves Tacoma, reported a 27.8% rise in import volumes last week and noted that 17 void sailings are expected for May and June as some importers pause shipments from China.

The alliance said export volume trends will be released next week — with exporters still affected by lingering tariffs following the May 11 tariff reduction announcement.

The Tacoma City Council voted on Tuesday to direct the City Manager and Planning Commission to advance a plan to build a stronger urban forest by expanding the Urban Forestry Program and the Urban Forestry Management Plan.

The resolution (which includes options for expanding grants and studying new regulations) began immediately and will last into late 2027 (helping balance tree planting with housing and budget needs).
