- ➤ Duane Dushon Moore was sentenced to 50 years in prison on Friday afternoon after being convicted of fatally shooting his child's mother, Kayla Vallee, in December 2023 while she was picking up their 10-year-old son—he waived his right to be present during sentencing. KOMO News

- ➤ On May 9, photojournalist Stephanie Schroder joined a volunteer group in Seabeck to track invasive European green crabs that threaten to out-compete native shellfish—concerns persist about their impact on local ecosystems. FOX 13
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On June 4, the Tacoma Planning Commission will hold a public hearing no earlier than 6 p.m. on the Tideflats Steering Committee Draft Subarea Plan, the Draft Planned Action Ordinance and proposed zoning changes at the Municipal Building Council Chambers & via Zoom. Community members can join a virtual informational meeting on May 28 at 6 p.m. to learn more & submit written comments by 5 p.m. on June 6 to help shape final recommendations for City Council. - ➤ Yesterday, May 9th, Tacoma switched all official city emails to the @tacoma.gov domain (excluding Tacoma Public Library and Tacoma Venues and Events) and ensured messages to both old and new addresses were delivered without interruption.
