- ➤ A dash camera video recorded a 17-year-old narrowly avoiding a drive-by shooting near Ruston Point in Tacoma on Monday night when a car unexpectedly fired and left a large bullet hole in his vehicle while his father said the teen has since been too shaken to drive. FOX 13

- ➤ The Tacoma Landmarks Preservation Commission will present the 2025 Historic Preservation Awards on May 22 from 6 — 7:30 p.m. at Urban Grace at 902 Market St. in Tacoma, where community members earn recognition for preserving local heritage—this free event welcomes all interested in maintaining Tacoma's historic character. - ➤ The City of Tacoma’s Equity in Contracting Program and the state Office of Minority and Women’s Business Enterprises will host the 'Certification 201' workshop on May 20 from 9—11 a.m. The event will be held in a hybrid format that encourages in-person attendance and urges participants to bring a laptop and the required financial documents for the application process. - ➤ The DOJ is investigating a new law that makes Washington clergy mandatory reporters of child abuse— the law took effect on May 6th. FOX 13
- ➤ Council Member Joe Bushnell will host a civic summit on Saturday, May 10 from noon to 2 p.m. at Baker Middle School (8001 South J St.) where District 5 residents will join local organizations to discuss ways to solve shared challenges. City of Tacoma
- ➤ On May 6, Tacoma’s Planning and Development Services Department won the Jurisdictional Outreach Award from the Washington Association of Building Officials for its Home in Tacoma program that helped the community learn about building codes and safety.
