On Tuesday, Pierce County officials shut down nearly 50 businesses for fire safety violations, including several massage parlors along Pacific Avenue, Canyon Road East and Meridian Avenue East.

Fire Marshal Ken Rice said unsafe wiring and locks risk further harm if left unaddressed.
