- ➤ Inflation is stretching family budgets and local humane societies, including the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County, are running low on pet food supplies—Seattle Humane also reports rising demand as donations stay down. The Tacoma shelter, which distributed over 110,000 pounds of pet food last year, now needs more regular contributions to help pet owners care for their animals. KOMO News
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ An early morning SUV rollover crash on Friday in Tacoma hit a telephone pole—west of Allenmore Golf Course—and cut power to a nearby nursing home, leading firefighters to extricate the injured driver and move ventilator-dependent patients to hospitals until power was restored. KOMO News
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Tukwila police took a Tacoma man wanted on an escape warrant for second-degree assault into custody on Thursday after he jumped into the Green River near Interstate 405 at 2:15 p.m. while officers used a helicopter, drone, firefighters, and a K9 unit plus a fire department ladder to retrieve him. - ➤ A man set fires at a department store and tried to steal a car before entering a bank on Union Street—where he claimed to have a bomb and asked how he could help—prompting Tacoma police to arrest him on serious charges. KOMO News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Tacoma expanded its downtown electric vehicle charging network to 51 stations — a near doubling of previous capacity — by adding 21 new chargers across City-operated parking lots in partnership with Tacoma Public Utilities. Community members are invited to a plugging-in event at 9:15 a.m. on April 22 at Tacoma Municipal Lot 728 Market St. to see two new DC fast chargers that support clean transportation efforts.
