Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 15th of April.
Good morning, Tacoma.
WSDOT will launch the first work zone speed camera on Wednesday, April 16th near Joint Base Lewis-McChord to capture images of speeding vehicles in an active work zone where safety concerns have been raised — officials said the camera will rotate among projects and infractions will be issued without impacting driving records until the second offense. Money from fines will cover program costs and support safety efforts.
Governor Bob Ferguson said that Washington is appealing FEMA's refusal to give $34M in disaster aid for damage from November storms—including a bomb cyclone—that hurt many communities.
The state estimated $34 million in damage that may rise and will file the appeal within 30 days.
The Washington state Senate passed House Bill 1163 requiring gun buyers to secure a permit and take live fire training before purchasing a firearm — the bill returned to the House for concurrence before going to Gov. Bob Ferguson's desk.
The Fairfax Bridge in Pierce County is closed indefinitely after a recent inspection found deterioration in its steel supports—this shutdown limits access to Mount Rainier National Park’s Mowich Lake Entrance and the Carbon River Ranger Station while WSDOT awaits further analysis amid deferred preservation work and funding shortages.
