CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Alec Ausbun, 27, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for killing Danny Stanley outside Culpepper’s Bar in Graham in 2022 and was sentenced to 15 years in prison—he expressed remorse during Tuesday’s hearing in Pierce County Superior Court. KOMO News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Tacoma residents are invited to the 17th Annual South Sound Sustainability Expo on April 26 from 10 AM to 3 PM at the University of Washington Tacoma campus along the Prairie Line Trail. The free event is family-friendly and features a repurposed art installation by Artist in Residence Teruko Nimura — it also includes a plant swap and a kids scavenger hunt. City of Tacoma
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City of Tacoma announced plans to modernize its website and the new tacoma.gov site will launch on April 30 so that users are automatically redirected from the old address. City email addresses for General Government and Tacoma Public Utilities will change from @cityoftacoma.org to @tacoma.gov starting May 9—ensuring a secure transition. City of Tacoma
- ➤ A reminder was issued that if you plan to take an upcoming flight, you must upgrade your driver's license to a Real ID; the deadline is less than one month away and appointments are booking fast — Tacoma drivers are urged to act soon. FOX 13
- ➤ The Washington state Senate passed a bill on April 8 that excludes juvenile facilities from laws used to punish prison riots — the change adjusts how these youth detention centers can be regulated. FOX 13
- ➤ Today, Tacoma launches two e-bike rebate programs, one from the Washington State Department of Transportation offering about 10,000 rebates statewide and one funded by a Department of Ecology grant that gives 450 rebates to residents in overburdened communities (affected by air quality).
